Our Legacy

Buss Ford is 93 years young and still growing strong! Our commitment to the McHenry community has been shaping for four generations. Our founder Ed Buss Sr. partnered with Lester Page to form one of the first Ford dealers near Chicago, Illinois –– originally named Buss-Page Motor Sales –– which grew successfully until 1941 when Ford Motor Company stopped producing cars to support the war. This drastic change led Ed Buss Sr. to take the lead as Buss Motor Sales. Soon the dealership became a family affair, and around 1947, Ed Buss Jr. began stepping up to make an impact. He and his wife Joan have continued this community-oriented legacy forward to their five children, and 72 years later, he is still here with us. Ed served as a Board President for the McHenry Area Chamber Chairman for four years, a McHenry Baseball Association President for eight years funding Buss Field, and much more.

In 1976, Steve Buss began running the showroom with the support of his wife Diane and their three children, eventually taking Ed Jr.’s place in 1986. Brother Bob Buss joined the team in 1980, and he and Steve’s involvement in McHenry has been just as important to them as their father. Steve held the reins and helped build the Fort McHenry Playground, raising money to re-open the McHenry Buss Theater, and supporting various youth sports leagues, earning him the Frank E. Low Award for distinguished community service. In 2001 we moved to our current Buss Ford location. Drew Buss followed in his grandfather's footsteps, swiftly working his way up as our Buss Ford leader in 2014. In 2018, Drew donated lights for the Zone Skate Park across the street from us in honor of Ryan Buss.
